Interactive virtual tour

Gdańsk University of Technology, established in 1904, is one of the oldest autonomous national universities in Poland. The original university buildings were erected between 1900 and 1904 according to the plans prepared by a Berlin architect Albert Carsten for the newly created Royal Institute of Technology (Königliche Preussische Technische Hochschule). The Main Building was built in the Dutch Renaissance Revival style and is richly decorated with sculptures, remaining a part of the monumental architecture of Gdańsk. Selected buildings belong to the national register of historic monuments.

The Gdańsk University of Technology campus (virtual tour) was ranked among the ten most beautiful in Europe by Times Higher Education. Situated in the heart of Wrzeszcz, a district lying only a few kilometers away from the centre of Gdańsk and just as close to the Baltic shore, it scenically combines historical buildings, modern research facilities and sprawling green areas.

The conference will be held at the main building of GUT. The GUT can easily be reach by tram in 20 min from downtown Gdansk.  how to get

tourist info

Location

Gdańsk is also the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, an area where the Baltic Sea meets sprawling woods and fields, towering hills and captivating lake districts. Within the voivodeship (a Polish term for a province) lies Kashubia, widely believed to be one of the most beautiful regions of Poland. A number of breathtaking landmarks, such as the towns of Kartuzy and Kościerzyna, lie only a stone’s throw away from Gdańsk and are easily reachable by train or bus.

This historic city has much to offer our participants after conference sessions. It boasts several important historical attractions, such as the Royal Way, famous promenade street of Polish kings, along with historic cathedrals and medieval ports. Among many tourists attractions the biggest are Mariacka Street, Dlugi Targ (Long Market), St Mary’s Church, European Solidarity Centre and many more.

History and Internationalisation

The city is proud of its rich history, dating all the way back to the Middle Ages. It was an important member of the Hanseatic League, a confederation of market towns dominating the Baltic trade, and has remained a prosperous economic centre ever since. It is where the World War II started, but also where Solidarity, the movement which changed the national history and is directly responsible for the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, was created.

From its inception Gdańsk has remained truly multicultural. The authorities estimate that circa 20,000 people from other countries live here, including 2000 international students. It is also a vibrant centre of technological innovation. Numerous global corporations can be found in the area, recruiting well-educated graduates of local higher education institutions for their workforce. 150,000 enterprises and corporations, 3000 foreign investors and 30 leading international companies operate in the city itself.

Transport and Climate

Contemporary Tricity ranks among the ten safest and most tolerant cities in Poland. It can be conveniently reached via the international Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, which lies only 14 km away from the city centre. There is a wide selection of bustrain and ferry connections with other major cities in Poland and abroad. A well-developed network of public transportation makes it easy to travel also within the Tricity itself.

The air of Tricity is smog-free and, for such a vast metropolitan area, relatively unpolluted. Gdańsk has an oceanic climate, with moderate winters, when temperature falls near or below 0°C, and mild summers, although in July and August it can get as hot as 30–35°C. At this time of the year both inhabitants and tourists visit the beautiful city beaches, the closest one lying only 6 km away from the Gdańsk University of Technology campus.
